Nocturnal Prayers Illustrations

During the Chinese lantern festival, people send their best players into the air before they let go of their lanterns. When the lantern flies away, their prayers are with it fading away to the sky. The lanterns can symbolize the people letting go of their past selves and getting new ones, which they will let go of the next year. The lanterns are almost always red to symbolize good fortune, blue to represent growth, and white for purity.

We called this project “The Nocturnal Prayers” in correlation to the five drawings that look like prayers flying high in the sky. It is made out of blue and red Posca markers, a white gel pen, and a black ink pen.

Tools

Axidraw, p5.js, Adobe Illustrator, Posca markers, white ink pen.
